North East Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) the first Master of Social Work Institute under Nagaland University celebrated the 3rd Freshers’ Day on 12th August 2016. It was organized under the theme ‘Together Towards Tomorrow’ with Prof.

Lanunungsang Ao, Former Pro-vice Chancellor, Nagaland University as a Chief Guest. Rev. Dr. Shiwoto Assumi, Rev Fr. Chacko, and Rev. Dr. Mathew John were also present for the occasion as special guests. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Prof. Lanunungsang stressed on the importance of believing in oneself and preparing for better tomorrow.

He encouraged the students to look beyond the horizon of Social Work Discipline and broaden the perspective to alter the scenario of the society. ‘Students should not be governed or guided by small mindsets. Social workers are needed in every field’ be it administration, law enforcement, financial sector, teaching etc. It is about broadening one horizon. Being a helping profession, a student of social work can help the society in any field and from every field, provided the values of the social work profession is kept up’, said Prof. Lanunungsang. He also exhorted the students to become efficient in their approach towards the society which can be obtained only through cramming books. Social work is a working profession and not just a disciplinary subject.

Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto the Principal, welcomed the forty freshers tribal aspiring MSW students from different states of North East and asked them to be more humane in their approach to transform the society.  ‘Before becoming professional social workers, we all need to become fully human being and then we are able to feel the pulse of the poor and the needy in our society. It is important for anyone to become a part of the society and be one with the common people to experience change. Today our society needs many professional social doctors to heal and transform lives. We the NEISSERIANS believe that we become a change maker in the days to come for our people in the region.’

The need of the hour is individual who are action oriented and put their words into actions’, he added.
