Peer meditation a model for Conflict Resolution

Peace Channel organised a day programme for Teachers of Dimapur District on Excel and enhance the profession as a teachers. The main objective of the program was to enhance and empower the teachers to be competent in their profession.

Dr. Fr. T. C Joseph, Principal of B.Ed. College Dimapur, address the teachers on principles, values and methods of education, he elucidated the concept with his personal experiences and examples. Dr. Fr. C.P Anto, Founder and director of Peace Channel and Principal of NEISSR spoke on various behavioural disorders of students in the class room and how to handle them systematically. He also stressed on the importance of peer mediation in educational institutes and communities. He also spoke about its importance, relevant and emergence of peer mediation in the context of Nagaland where youths take initiatives to resolve the youth issues by themselves in educational institution and community respectively.

Miss Martha Caceres and Mr Mohit from Liverpool Hope University UK enlightened the participants on Paulo Freire Brazilian Educator. She spoke about Peace education as a process of social change by following the critical pedagogy of Paulo Freire on banking system to critical system.  It is all about “banking” concept of education, in which the student was viewed as an empty account to be filled by the teacher to transforms students into receiving objects. It attempts to control thinking and action, leads men and women to adjust to the world, and inhibits their creative power.

The program was attainted by 15 teachers from 9 schools. The programme started with a welcome address by Mr Patrick W. Tungoe, Researcher Peace Channel and concluded with vote of thanks by Miss Vikhuli Achumi, District coordinator Dimapur.
